Bayern Munich’s search for a replacement for Manuel Neuer continues. The 36-year-old broke his leg in a skiing accident and will miss the remainder of the season, resulting in the Rekordmeister entering the transfer market. BILD reported last week that Bayern want a replacement by January 6.
High on Bayern Munich’s list is Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, the 33-year-old has informed Die Fohlen bosses of his desire to join the Bundesliga leaders this month, with just six months remaining on his current deal.
But as reported by Sky Germany, for Sommer to join Bayern, two things must happen. Firstly, Bayern must make a suitable offer and secondly, Borussia Mönchengladbach would like to sign a replacement beforehand. Per the report, Copenhagen’s Mathew Ryan was offered to the club and has a reported €500,000 release clause. The Australian also lost his place at the Danish club prior to the World Cup.
Another option for Bayern Munich is Alexander Nübel, but the premature ending of his loan seems unlikely at this moment. Nübel wants assurances over his place at Bayern, but the No. 1 spot isn’t guaranteed once Neuer recovers from his leg break. Bayern officials have opened negotiations with AS Monaco to end the loan early, but the Bundesliga side would have to pay a compensation fee.
In the last hours, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp has also emerged as a candidate, but a move is unlikely, according to Florian Plettenberg. The 32-year-old has a contract with SGE until 2024 and retirement in Hessen is also a possibility, with SGE open to giving Trapp a job post his playing career.
Another name linked is Sevilla’s Yassine Bono, but a move is unlikely.
