RB Leipzig are looking at the potential option of Maarten Vandevoordt joining the club this year due to the injury of Peter Gulacsi.

On Vandevoordt, Max Eberl said: “The clubs agreed at the time that he could come as early as 2023.” Vandevoordt agreed to join Leipzig in 2022 form Genk, signing a contract that begins in 2024 and expires in 2029, but due to Gulacsi suffering from a ligament injury it has meant Leipzig have begun explore this route.

The current goalkeeping situation at Leipzig sees them have four fit first team goalkeepers, none the level that Leipzig wish to be at. Janis Blaswich has been the back-up option, playing eight games since Gulacsi’s injury. Whilst Orjan Nyland was signed on a free transfer after the injury to the club captain happened, he has played once. Jonas Nickisch and Timo Schlieck have not played.

Vandevoordt has played 19 times for Genk this season and has been Genk’s number one for the majority of the four years he has spent in the first team. Genk are currently first in the Jupiler Pro League.
