Arsenal have completed their first major signing of the January transfer window following confirmation of a deal struck with Brighton to sign 28-year-old forward Leandro Trossard. In a move that will likely cost the London club around €30 million in up front and potential add-on fees, the Belgium international makes the move to the Emirates after signing a “long-term” contract with his new club. The transfer makes Trossard one of the five most expensive deals in the January window.

“It is good work from everyone at the club to complete the signing of Leandro,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. “He is a versatile player with high technical ability, intelligence and a great deal of experience in the Premier League and at international level. Leandro strengthens our squad as we head into the second part of the season and we’re all looking forward to working with him. We welcome Leandro and his family to Arsenal Football Club.”

Trossard has scored seven goals and three assists in 17 games across all competitions for the Seagulls this season. Signed for €15.56m from Genk in 2019, the winger, however, has not featured since Brighton’s 2-4 defeat to Arsenal on matchday 18. According to various media reports, Trossard had a fallout with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi during a training session.

Trossard set to join Arsenal – Brighton have earned €113.9m on the market

Instead of returning to the squad, Trossard has since pushed through a move to Arsenal. In fact, Trossard’s departure from Brighton marks the latest high profile away from the club. Brighton have already earned €113.9m in player sales this season and once Trossard has joined Arsenal, €265m since managing promotion six years ago.
