Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo is not being picked to start by Bayern Munich due to a lack of application in training, according to Hasan Salihamidzic.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director says that he still believes the Portuguese international will become a key player but he is currently not doing enough to get first-team opportunities:
“Lately he hasn’t been training and playing quite as had been imagined. Joao will become a very important player. We communicate well with him. He’s an outstanding player who will become important in the future.”
There has been a mixed reaction to the remarks on Twitter with some fans wanting Cancelo to return to the Etihad, while others find the whole situation pretty ironic:

City have a financial problem ne t summer he would have wound down another Yr of contract, they won’t buy him and we then have to sell cheap or bring back a player who doesn’t fit the character mould ie dropped and wants out, ie Sterling, Jesus, him etc

There have already been rumours that Bayern have decideed against paying the €70m (£62m) purchase option that was included in the loan deal, with Chelsea, Barcelona and others keeping tabs on the player’s situation.
As some supporters have pointed out, though, it’s bizarre that Cancelo left City due to a lack of minutes when he is now having the exact same problem in Germany. A return to England is looking pretty likely at the moment.
