Chelsea told they are ‘destroying’ Lampard’s reputation with Boehly ‘laughing at him’

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan thinks Chelsea are “destroying” Frank Lampard’s reputation after another defeat in the Premier League.

The Blues only have 39 points after 32 matches in the Premier League this season with Lampard taking over from Graham Potter earlier this month.

Lampard is in caretaker charge until the end of the season when widespread rumours claim former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be appointed as their new head coach.

It has been a disastrous first full season under Todd Boehly’s ownership after Chelsea splashed around £600m on new players over the past two transfer windows.

Lampard has now lost all five of his five matches in charge of Chelsea this season with the Blues now only ten points adrift of the relegation zone.

Chelsea’s final six matches all look pretty tricky with away matches at Arsenal, Bournemouth, Manchester City and Manchester United, while they have two home fixtures left against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest and Champions League-chasing Newcastle United.

And Jordan reckons Pochettino needs to be appointed now “rather than wasting time allowing the rot to set in” under Lampard.

Jordan told talkSPORT: “Well if you’ve made your mind up about Pochettino, and that’s the decision that you’ve made because you know my views are slightly different to others about the outcome that Pochettino will bring.

“But if you want to start contending again then start it now, rather than wasting time allowing the rot to set in, allowing narratives to be built up, allow people to build upon the foundation of discrediting your ownership, I would want to stop that now.

“I would want to stop it in it’s tracks and go, ‘right OK, pivot’. This is what best people do, and no doubt Boehly, given the economic position he’s put himself in, will find the levels.

“But what you do in business is if you’ve got it wrong, you pivot, and you pivot into a better outcome.

“You don’t just settle into the outcome that you’ve got and say, ‘I tell you what, here’s a populous decision, I’ll bring a legend back so I can destroy his reputation as well because he can’t help himself, he thinks it’s an opportunity. I’ll put him in the firing line, he can stick his head in the lion’s mouth, and we can all sit there and laugh at him as well’.”
