First title since 1990
Napoli are the champions of Italy. The team coached by Luciano Spalletti secured a 1-1 draw against Udinese Calcio to win their third title in history. Napoli won the Serie A title with five games to go and a 16-point gap to second-placed Lazio. The most impressive part, Napoli won the title by spending just €343.8 million on their squad, one of the most efficient squad constructions in European football.
Victor Osimhen would ultimately score the goal (52’) that secured the first title since the Diego Maradona era. Sandi Lovric scored the go-ahead goal for Udinese (13’). While Osimhen and his teammates celebrated in Udinese, the championship party in Napoli quickly went into full swing. Around 60,000 fans followed the game in on eight massive screens installed inside the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. More screens were installed all over town.
Napoli stars lead the way: The biggest market value winners in Serie A
Several thousand fans got together all over town and chanted songs and burned fireworks. And even before the final whistle was blown in Udine, fireworks could be seen all over town. Due to security measures, the police shut down traffic in the often-chaotic city. The measures were supposed to secure a peaceful party night. That party was technically supposed to happen four days ago, but Napoli dropped two points in the 1-1 draw against Salernitana. Despite that result, nobody in Italy had any doubt that Napoli would win its third title after 1987 and 1990.

Fuelled by Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia – How did Napoli win the title?
The South Italians secured the title by playing spectacular football attacking football fuelled by Osimhen and Georgian maestro Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as well as a supporting task of previously unknown stars. Napoli have come close in the past but always hit a bump at a certain point and missed out. That was not the case this season, as Spalletti kept his side on course.

Indeed, Napoli were cautious on the transfer market this season, spending just €76.05m while earning €80.45m from players’ sales. Furthermore, the club also lost legend Lorenzo Insigne (to Toronto) on a free transfer. Two other cornerstones that left were Kalidou Koulibaly (€38m to Chelsea) and Fabián Ruiz (€23m to PSG). Napoli used that money to sign Min-Jae Kim (€18.5m from Fenerbahçe), Mathías Olivera (€16.5m from Getafe), Frank Anguissa (€16m from Fulham), and most importantly, Kvaratskhelia (€11.5m from Dinamo Batumi).
Anguissa and, of course, Kvaratskhelia stand out as most of those players. But going back further, Osimhen—one of the most in-demand forwards on the planet—was signed for €75m from LOSC Lille and now has a market value of €100m. In fact, Napoli paid just €343.8m to assemble a squad that now has a total market value of €629m. Only three other clubs in Europe (Bayern, Arsenal, and Milan) have been more efficient on the transfer market. The next task will be trying to keep this squad together, but that will be a problem for after the title celebrations.
