Jill Roord caught the eyes of footballing scouts in her teenage. In 2016, then 19-year-old Roord helped her team FC Twente clinch their consecutive Eredivisie title. She was also the top-scorer of the league with 20 goals under her belt.

She was also instrumental in helping Netherlands clinch the historic Euro-2017 and has been a regular for them since then. The Dutch clinched Euro 2017 after defeating Denmark 4-2 in the finals. Roord made 3 appearances in their only major accolade thus far.

Following her run of brilliance, she was signed by Bayern Munich where she featured for 2 seasons from 2017-2019 before joining City’s arch-rivals Arsenal in 2019. For the Gunners too she was marvelous on the pitch, scoring 9 goals in 33 games she played for North Londoners.

Goals, goals, goals!!

Jill Roord is a sensation in front of goal and loves to find the back of net whilst winning trophies for fun. In her two years at German, she aided and abetted in securing three domestic trophies. She was also a chief player in helping Wolfsburg reach the finals of Champions League 2023 which they unfortunately lost 3-2 to Barcelona.

In her two years in the Northern Germany, Roord made 40 appearances and was successful in netting the ball past goalkeeper 16 times. Only 26 now, she already has crossed the tally over 100+ career goals in her club career and promises an ascending for City’s women team that finished 4th this season: behind Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal in the same order.

Signing their record transfer fee, Manchester City have made their intentions clear. Just like the Premier League, they plan to dominate Women Super League henceforth. She will be joining her national team mate Kerstin Casparij and is ecstatic about playing alongside her.

“She had no clue that I was coming, so I hope she’s happy,” Roord said about Casparij.

“Obviously, we know each other and have played together at the national team for a while, so I think she can help me with many things here.

“I’ve always heard her talking positively about this club, so I hope she’s happy I’m coming!”

Our number 20 is here to win games and continue her fun loving style of football. When being asked about her intentions and plans with City, she expressed that enjoying football is her way of bringing out the best in her and she will continue to do so for the Blues of Manchester.

She further explained: “If you play professionally at some point, it becomes super serious.

“I’ve always been told to enjoy it, that’s the most important thing, make sure you enjoy the game.”

Roord is the first promising signing for this summer of what promises to be an enchanting transfer window.
