QPR ‘expect’ departure
Rangers are reportedly growing more and more confident of appointing Michael Beale as their next head coach. The Scottish Premiership side have been without a manager since they dismissed Giovanni van Bronckhorst on November 21 and are now seemingly edging closer to appointing a coach that was up until very recently working at the Ibrox club.
According to TalkSPORT and other reports in England, Beale’s current club, Queen’s Park Rangers, “expect” the head coach to leave shortly, amid interest from Rangers. The 42-year-old tactician has only been in his first managerial role at Loftus Road since the start of the season, when he departed Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard’s assistant coach to make the step up.
Rangers dominate: The most valuable players in the Scottish Premiership
Surprisingly, Beale was publicly courted by Premier League side Wolves earlier this season, but Beale made a point of rejecting the top-flight club in favour of staying at QPR. Despite now apparently opting for a move to the Scottish Premiership side he once helped run under Gerrard’s stewardship of the Glasgow club from 2018 to 2021. Beale enjoyed a strong start to the season at Loftus Road, guiding the club to first place in the English Championship, but has since seen his side go four league games without victory and subsequently QPR have dropped to seventh in the table.
Rangers hoping to return to the past to rebuild their future
Rangers will undoubtedly be delighted if they can appoint Beale, who was widely regarded to play a large part in Gerrard’s success at the Ibrox club. During their time in Glasgow, Rangers were able to wrestle control of the Premiership from Celtic’s grasp to win their first league title since 2012 in 2021 without losing a single game.
While Rangers’ run to the Europa League final was under Van Bronckhorst, many of the players and tactics that were used came from Gerrard and Beale’s time at the club. Which was only further highlighted by the Dutch manager’s struggles to match the records set by the previous managerial team. Over the course of 68 games at the club, Van Bronckhorst averaged 2.01 points per game, which proved to be too low to challenge for the Premiership title last season, while just 14 wins from his first 27 games of this season ultimately led to the Dutch manager being sacked by the Ibrox club.
