Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently given his views on the Premier League title race – he believes that it will be largely contested between Arsenal and Manchester City as the season draws on.

He thinks that both teams have ‘so much quality’ in their respective squads, also mentioning that he feels they have been ‘unlucky’ with their recent results.

Romano also added that he feel Tottenham Hotspur had a ‘hugely impressive’ start to the season, but feels they will fall by the wayside as the campaign progresses.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Manchester City’s title chance?

Speaking on the Daily Briefing, Romano said: “We’re almost a third of the way into the season now, so how is the title race shaping up? We’ve had a bit of a surprise already so far as Tottenham have been hugely impressive, only to stutter a little in their last two games.

“My personal feeling is that it’s looking like Arsenal and Manchester City will be the main teams fighting for the title. Spurs are doing something special, and I want to say congrats to them really, but with injuries to key players like James Maddison it’s very difficult to keep going.

“They’ve been really unlucky with their results in recent days, conceding crucial goals in stoppage time against both Chelsea and Wolves. But overall I see a battle between City and Arsenal.

“We’re maybe yet to see either of them at their very best yet this season, but they have so much quality in both squads, and have coped well despite key injuries, with City having to play without Kevin De Bruyne so far this season, while Arsenal have barely been able to play their strongest XI as Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey have hardly featured, and others like Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard have missed a lot of games.”

Who are the title favourites as thing stand?

According to Oddschecker, Manchester City are the outstanding favourites to win the Premier League in 2023/24. Bet365 have them at 1/2, SkyBet have them at 2/5 and Paddy Power have given them odds of 4/9.

Meanwhile, the majority of bookmakers also have Arsenal as the second favourites. Bet365 have given the Gunners odds of 4/1 to win the Premier League this season, as have Paddy Power – meanwhile, they’re rated at 9/2 by SkyBet.
