Undefeated Australian heavyweight Justis Huni has been cleared of any serious stomach injury after being rushed to hospital only days after his brutal 10-round decision win over New Zealander Kiki Leutele.

However, the rising star will have to wait until Thursday to know if his right hand, which may have broken during the fight, requires surgery.

Rated among the most exciting prospects in Australian boxing, 23-year-old Huni was hospitalised on Tuesday morning with severe stomach pain.

The fighter’s father Rocki Huni said the drama had first started days earlier on Sunday, when his son complained of “severe stomach cramping”.

Initially thought to be food poisoning, the young Queensland was then rushed to hospital with appendicitis among the potential causes.

However, on Monday afternoon Huni snr confirmed to Fox Sports Australia that his son, after a series of tests, had been cleared of any serious problems.

“Justis is doing well,” the trainer said.

“Looks like it’s just a bad case of stomach cramps that has been doing the rounds. I’ve now been told that one of our corners is having similar problems.

“So it must have been something Justis got on the night.

“But they’ve done all the tests and they’ve come back perfect.”

The hospital scare comes only three days after Huni endured, and won, a tough decision win over Leutele at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena.

The Queenslander was actually due to front a specialist at 5am Tuesday morning to determine if he had suffered a break in his round hand during the fight.

Huni injured his hand in the fourth round and there are now fears he will have to undergo surgery.

“But we’ll likely see the specialist about his hand on Thursday now,” Huni snr said.

The fighter also went under the knife following his win over State of Origin star Paul Gallen in June last year, after suffering ligament damage.

While Huni is slated to fight again in December 16 – against a yet to be named opponent – that card is now in serious doubt given his hand issues.
