Aussie wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has once again confirmed she would be honoured to take the reins as the next women’s captain following Meg Lanning’s internation retirement.

The 33-year-old has stood in as interim captain during Lanning’s time away from cricket and has previously filled the role of vice-captain.

Healy believes she can play a part in taking this Australia squad to “another level” but did admit that the selectors could opt to pick a younger captain.

The only place to catch every ball of the WBBL live and ad-break free during play is on Fox Cricket, available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel!

“I got asked would I love to do it and said ‘sure, why not’. I’ve sort of had a taste of it over the last 18 months and thoroughly enjoyed it,” Healy said to foxsports.com.au.

“I’ve sort of approached it from the perspective of it being interim and that Meg was coming back while I was sort of holding on to the group while she was gone.

“But that’s not obviously not the case, and for me at the point I’m in in my career, I thought it would be a really good opportunity to approach that job full time.

“And how I can play a part in taking this group to another level, I’d love to do it but that decision is out of my hands.

“If it is me or if it is the next generation of leader within this group I will play my role to whatever it needs to be.”

Meanwhile, her participation in the first Test against India is in doubt after suffering an ugly dog bite injury early in the WBBL season.

However, Healy revealed she is on track and recovering well, desperate to return not only for cricket but also to get on the golf course.

“It’s going really well, I’m guided by the experts in that regard because I’ve got no idea, but it’s all healed really well,”

“It’s moving, I’m back in the gym in exercising which is my least favourite thing to do but hopefully in the next few weeks I can get back in to some cricket skills and get ready for the trip to India.

“I haven’t been out, I love my golf and that’s probably been the saddest bit, yes playing cricket is what I love to do, but playing golf is what I love even more.

“That’s been the saddest part about this whole thing is not being able to play golf.”

Healy played in a trio of games for the Sixers, but has since been watching on and was most impressed by the young pace bowlers on show this year.

She pointed out Melbourne trio Sara Kennedy and Milly Illingworth as the players to watch coming into the closing stages of the WBBL.

“I think for me the coolest evolution of the next generation has been the fast bowlers, the MCG game, the Stars vs Renegades is going to be really exciting,” Healy said.

“The up and coming fast bowlers, Sara Kennedy and Milly Illingworth, it’s been a really exciting part of the competition, we see young batters come through a make runs all the time.

“But for me seeing young fast bowlers charging in trying to bump the best batsmen in the world has been really fun to watch.”
