Gareth Morgan, captain of the Mudgeeraba Nerang & Districts CC third grade team, has pulled off a cricketing miracle on the Gold Coast, taking six wickets in the final over of Saturday’s dramatic four-run win over Surfers Paradise CC.
Surfers Paradise needed five runs for victory heading into the last over with six wickets in hand, only for Morgan to take a sextuple-wicket maiden, including five golden ducks.
After removing Surfers Paradise opener Jake Garland for 65, caught at deep mid-wicket, Morgan ran through the opposition’s lower order to finish with 7-16 from six overs. The first four dismissals were all caught, while the final two were bowled.

“It is funny, the umpire said to me at the start of the over that I needed to take a hat-trick or something to win the game,” Morgan told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“When it happened he just sort of looked at me.”
Earlier in the match, Morgan top-scored for Mudgeeraba with a rapid 39, clearing the boundary rope twice.
