As Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 gears up for its 17th season starting March 22, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have strategically revamped their leadership. Nicholas Pooran, the explosive West Indian batter, steps into the role of vice-captain, succeeding Krunal Pandya. Pooran will closely collaborate with the eminent leader, Indian stalwart KL Rahul, who will continue to helm the team in this edition too.

The franchise officially disclosed this crucial leadership change through their social media account on X, setting the tone for LSG’s campaign that will kick off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 24. In a symbolic gesture, Rahul presented Pooran with the vice-captain’s jersey, marked with the number 29, at a recent event.

Pooran, secured for a hefty INR 16 crore in the 2023 auction, etched his name as the most expensive wicketkeeper purchase in IPL history. His explosive batting prowess was evident in the IPL 2023 season, amassing 358 runs at a staggering strike rate of nearly 173.

LSG’s past glory and aspirations ahead

In the previous season, LSG showcased commendable performance, registering 8 wins in 15 matches during IPL 2023. Despite the absence of Rahul due to injury towards the season’s end, the team clinched a respectable fourth position. With now Rahul and Pooran at the helm, LSG will aim to build on past successes and emerge as strong contenders for the IPL 2024 championship title.
