Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have made a significant announcement regarding their coaching staff for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dale Steyn, the team’s bowling coach since 2022, will not be part of the coaching setup for IPL 2024 due to personal reasons.
New bowling coach for IPL 2024
In light of Steyn’s departure, SRH has appointed former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin as the team’s new bowling coach. This marks Franklin’s debut as a coach in the IPL, bringing a wealth of experience from his playing days, particularly with Mumbai Indians in 2011 and 2012.
Franklin will join forces with his former Black Caps teammate Daniel Vettori, who continues as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad after the 2023 season. Their partnership extends beyond the IPL, having previously collaborated at Middlesex in county cricket and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
Interestingly, Franklin has also served as a head coach at Durham and currently holds the position of assistant coach at Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Strengths of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack
Sunrisers Hyderabad boasts one of the most formidable bowling line-ups in the IPL, blending pace and spin to great effect. With players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, and others, they possess a diverse range of fast bowlers. Additionally, spin options are aplenty with the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Washington Sundar, and Shahbaz Ahmed in their ranks.
Fixtures for Sunrisers in the first leg of IPL 2024
As they gear up for IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad will commence their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 23. Following this, they will face Mumbai on March 27, Gujarat Titans on March 31, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 5 in the first-leg fixtures.
