Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and they chose to bat first. The Kolkata Knight Riders pacers proved to be too much for the Sunrisers Hyderabad top order, who were reduced to wiped out for 113 in the IPL 2024 final. Mitchell Starc started off the proceedings by removing Abhishek Sharma in the first over.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Arora got the better of Travis Head in the next over. Starc would strike again to remove Rahul Tripathi while Harshit Rana struck in his first over to snap Nitish Kumar Reddy. SRH were four wickets down at the halfway mark, six-down in 12 overs and the batters could never arrest the slide. KKR bowlers had discovered the bowling mantra on a pitch where there was enough help off the surface for pacers, some grip for off-pace balls and bounce for the spinners
. The only way SRH could transfer pressure to their opponents was through some release shots. Nitish Reddy (13) tried to force the pace but Harshit Rana’s 146 kph screamer got him caught behind. Markram (20) holed out trying to pull Andre Russell out of the park.
Chasing a paltry target of 114 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, KKR reached home in 10.3 overs, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s 52 not out off 26. KKR never looked back since then. The Shreyas Iyer-led side kept the noose tightened throughout the innings and eventually bowled the side out for a paltry total in 18.3 overs. KKR beat SRH by 8 wickets.
