Australian rising star Phoebe Litchfield received player of the match honours after smacking 68 (45) during the Northern Superchargers’ 14-run victory over the Oval Invincibles at Headingley on Friday.

The 19-year-old cracked eight boundaries and a six, combining with captain Hollie Armitage (42 from 33 balls) for a 94-run partnership for the third wicket as the Superchargers posted 4-143.

Litchfield, who scored her maiden ODI century last month, reached her half-century in just 33 deliveries, later dismissed by Invincibles seamer Eva Gray after holing out to long-off.

“I’m not the biggest hitter,” Litchfield said in the post-match press conference.

“I can’t really hit a six over mid-wicket, so I’m trying to access different pockets of the ground.”

It comes after Litchfield’s unbeaten 42 during last week’s season opener against the Birmingham Phoenix and swift 38 against the Trent Rockets on Wednesday. The Orange product is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition with 148 runs at 49.33 and a strike of 142.30.

The Invincibles fell short of the target in Leeds, registering 5-129 after Cordelia Griffith blasted an unbeaten 30 from 15 balls at the death,

Victorian leg-spinner Georgia Wareham was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 2-20 after a classy 20-ball spell, including the crucial scalp of young gun Alice Capsey, who was stumped in comedic fashion by wicketkeeper Bess Heath.

The Superchargers, who are third on the ladder with three wins from four matches, will next face the Manchester Originals on Sunday evening at 8pm AEST.
