But the next ball he faced was his downfall.
Robinson fired down a delivery that thumped into Labuschagne’s pads.
The English quick wheeled off in celebration and barely looked back at the umpire as his teammates loudly and successfully appealed for LBW.
Labuschagne looked slightly puzzled by the call at first but soon made his way back to the pavilion having mustered just the single run.
The wicket of the world’s No. 1 batsman was one of four for Robinson who ultimately finished with figures of 4/29 from 12 overs bowled.
Unlike his good pal Labuschagne, Smith enjoyed a significantly more successful time at the crease.

The clash against Glamorgan doubles as Smith’s third and final with Sussex and he’ll no doubt look to turn his score into triple figures on the second day.
Australian bowler Michael Neser, who was not selected for the World Test Championship and Ashes squad, also made an impact with the ball for Glamorgan.
The Queenslander trapped Sussex’s Tom Alsop LBW for just three runs before securing the wicket of Indian star Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck via the same method.
