The Match 09 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 took place between Royal Challengers Bangalore Women and Mumbai Indians at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The contest saw domination from Mumbai, who registered a comfortable win by 7 wickets.
Pooja Vastrakar, Nat Sciver-Brunt sizzle with the ball
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians displayed a stellar bowling performance to restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to 131/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
For the Challengers, Ellyse Perry was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a crucial 44 runs off 38 deliveries, supported by Georgia Wareham‘s brisk 27 off 20 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to capitalize on their starts, with no other player managing to make a significant contribution.
Pooja Vastrakar and Nat Sciver-Brunt were the tremendous performers with the ball. Vastrakar bagged two wickets while conceding 14 runs in 3 overs. Similarly, Sciver-Brunt picked up a couple as well for 27 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Batters leads Mumbai Indians to a convincing win
In response, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with ease, reaching 133/3 in just 15.1 overs, clinching victory by 7 wickets. Yastika Bhatia set the tone for the innings with a blistering 31 off 15 balls, while contributions from Hayley Matthews, Natalie Sciver, and Amelia Kerr ensured Mumbai Indians Women reached the target comfortably.
Despite some spirited bowling efforts from Royal Challengers Bangalore, including a wicket each from Sophie Devine, Georgia Wareham, and Shreyanka Patil, Mumbai Indians’ batting firepower proved too much to handle.
