RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol is targeting a transfer to Manchester City, according to reports in the French media.
There have been previous claims made that the Premier League champions, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made offers for the Croatian international.
However, Leipzig are believed to be holding out for around €110m (£97.6m) and Gvardiol has recently spoken out to say that he won’t force a move away from the Bundesliga club.
In fact, the 20-year-old, who was one of the standout performances at the World Cup, has recently admitted an affection for City’s rivals Liverpool:
“Since I was little, I watched a lot of Liverpool matches with my dad and we covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart.”
The Reds are not expected to enter the race for Gvardiol’s signature, though, so it seems he has decided that a switch to the Etihad would be a good career move. Considering the cost of the deal, City would have to be confident that the centre-half is the complete package, but a transfer next summer does seem like a genuine possibility.
