New Ipswich Town Women signing Angela Addison has told of her excitement for the new season as her career comes full circle.
Angela Addison, 24, played for the girls’ academy at the Suffolk club growing up, until its funding was cut.
She was the club’s first signing of the summer after spending the last two seasons with Charlton Athletic in the Women’s Championship.
The attacking midfielder said it was the right time for her to come back to Ipswich after talks with Town manager Joe Sheehan.
“Joe has known me for a couple of years,” she explained.
“I played against Ipswich a few times before – maybe three or four times.
“I think he was interested before but my head was elsewhere… but coming back to where I started playing football for Ipswich academy, it just feels right.”
Addison said she had always watched the Ipswich women “with interest” and described it as “an incredible squad”.
“Now is the right time to push forward with them,” she continued.
“Nothing is given, it’s a tough league – it’s just as tough as the Championship and Women’s Super League.
“We want to push forward and all you can do is try your hardest and take each game as it comes.”
Addison moved to Ipswich when she was nine years old with her mum and played in the club’s girls’ academy for several years.
Unfortunately its funding was cut by the FA, but Addison went onto play professionally and has also previously played for Tottenham Hotspur.
Ipswich play in the Southern Premier Division and Addison said she was determined to help bring a trophy home for the Blues.
“They’ve got so much talent in the squad,” she said.
“You wouldn’t never have thought it, as they are that young.
“I’ve learned so much already being here – I trust the process, we’ve had many good talks and it’s been well structured. It’s brilliant.
“I just want to win a trophy and do everything that I can to provide that and help the team reach their goal.
“It’s like you’re almost writing a perfect story and I want that story to have a perfect ending.”
