Bayer Leverkusen are hours away from ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance in the Bundesliga. All they have to do is beat Werder Bremen. Ahead of their Bundesliga clash, anticipation is already mounting around the city with a street sign on Bismarckstraße, located just outside the stadium, already changed to “Xabi-Alonso-Allee”.
Dubbed ‘Neverkusen’ because of how often Bayer have finished runners-up, Alonso is about to put an end to that myth. Die Werkself are unbeaten in 42 games across all competitions this season and with the treble still on, sit 13 points clear of Bayern Munich and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, meaning a win against Werder Bremen will see them crowned champions for the first time in the club’s history.
👀 Bayer Leverkusen fans are already already getting into the mood for tomorrow and are showing Xabi Alonso some appreciation.
🆕 A street sign in Leverkusen has been renamed after the Spaniard.

Speaking to BILD ahead of today’s game, legendary former B04 head coach and Manager Director Reiner Calmund had a message for Alonso and his players: “This is the day when you can become legends in the history of Bayer 04. You absolutely deserve it.”
Bayer Leverkusen fans are desperate to see their club win their first ever Meisterschale. So much so that fans are willing to pay extraordinary fees for a ticket.
Listening to a Bayer Leverkusen supporter tell some West Ham fans that tickets for their final game of the season are being sold for as much as €1,000! People desperate to see them lift their first Bundesliga title.
