As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal to sign Southampton winger Nathan Tella.

As previously understood, Die Werkself had identified Nathan Tella as a suitable replacement for the departing Moussa Diaby – but were struggling to match the Saints’ valuation of the Englishman. It had been considered that Leverkusen were reliant on the sale of Nadiem Amiri to Leeds United in order to secure the funds for Tella’s move.

Nevertheless, despite Amiri ultimately turning the move to Elland Road, Leverkusen have reached an agreement with Southampton for the 24-year-old. The fee is believed to be in the region of €20m with add-ons and a medical is expected to be undergone soon.

As well as this, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, the deal for Tella will also include a future sell-on clause for the English club. It is also expected that the winger will sign a five-year deal with the German outfit.

After a positive start to the season that saw Xabi Alonso’s side defeat RB Leipzig 3-2, expectations are high for Leverkusen this season. The addition of Tella will certainly take the goalscoring burden away from Florian Wirtz and Jonas Hofmann out wide, as the 24-year-old looks to add much-needed depth to Alonso’s attacking options.
