Bayern Munich director of sport Max Erbl has suggested the club will need to make sales to fund their transfer business this summer, amid Premier League interest in Joshua Kimmich and Matthijs de Ligt.

The German champions broke their transfer record to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham last summer, agreeing a deal to bring the England captain to the Bundesliga for an initial fee of €100m.

Kim Min-jae and Sacha Boey have also arrived in recent months for substantial fees and Erbl insists Bayern do not have the resources to continue spending large sums without sales.

“We’ll have financial chances in the summer, but not limitless. New signings include sales in order to have the financial means to do something,” Erbl told BILD when discussing the club’s summer transfer plans.

“We can’t make transfers like Kane every summer. We need 14/15 top players.”

Joshua Kimmich is one name who has been linked with an exit, as the midfielder approaches the final season of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

Reports from Germany suggested the 29-year-old was open to an exit in search of a new challenge and has shortlisted Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona as destinations he would consider.

There have been ‘no concrete’ discussions over a new deal for Kimmich at Bayern, where his current deal is set to expire in 2025.

Another potential sale could be Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. The 24-year-old has struggled for an automatic role in the side this season, starting just 12 times in the Bundesliga.

De Ligt – who signed for Bayern from Juventus for an initial fee of €67m in 2022 – has previously been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United. The defender could wait to discover who will become the new head coach of Bayern before making a decision on his future, with Thomas Tuchel to leave the club at the end of the season.
