Chelsea “don’t want” to sell left-back Ben Chilwell despite the player being a transfer target for Manchester City, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Writing his column for TEAMtalk, Jacobs claims that manager Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the England international but a switch to the Etihad this summer is very unlikely:
“Chilwell is a player that Guardiola has appreciated for some time, but at the moment Chilwell’s sole focus is on Chelsea and Chelsea don’t want to let Chilwell go.”
The Chelsea defender is an attack-minded fullback who is just as comfortable playing in a back four or a back three, so you can understand why Guardiola would be interested in signing him.
With both Chilwell and his club not particularly interested in making a deal happen, it does look as though City will have to look elsewhere in order to strengthen their options on the left-hand side of defence.
Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa is someone that the Citizens have looked at in the past, and Jacobs believes a move for the Croatian could be revisited. Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco has also been mentioned as a potential candidate in recent weeks.
