Sport1 reports that Bo Svensson has decided to leave his role as Mainz head coach with the club currently sitting dead last in the Bundesliga.
During a meeting at the club today, Svensson expressed his desire to resign. The players and sporting director were informed of the decision after the meeting. Mainz will have an interim coach in charge for the game against RB Leipzig at the weekend before trying to appoint a replacement.
Svensson’s departure from the club will bring an end to a 14-year association with the club that has seen him take on a variety of roles from a head coach, coach of youth teams, an assistant manager as well as a player.
The Dane departs Mainz after a 3-0 loss to 2.Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin in the DFB-Pokal, while in the Bundesliga, Mainz currently sit 18th in the league without a win to their name a quarter of the way through the season.
