Locked at 1-all in the final minutes of extra-time, Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz broke the deadlock with a strong header into the corner of the net.

Alcaraz immediately celebrated, taking off his jersey and showing off in front of the Boca Juniors fans.

After the crowd began throwing bottles at the field, infuriated Boca players began grabbing at him and pulling his ear before throwing the ball at him.

The incident say Alcaraz and Jonathan Galvan sent off as well as five Boca players where were harassing him.

The referee, Facundo Tello, is on the list of referees for the World Cup starting in Qatar on November 20 and his exploits will raise eyebrows looking to avoid similar scenes at the sport’s showpiece event.

Boca scored first through Armenian international Norberto Briasco, before Paraguayan Racing Club star Matias Rojas blasted a long-range strike.

Regular time finished with the first red cards, when some tame pushing and shoving between Boca’s Sebastian Villa and Racing’s Johan Carbonero saw both dismissed.

Boca’s Alan Varela was next, giving Racing Club the advantage they needed to secure the silverware.

Incredibly, the match finished with just four Boca players and eight Racing Club players on the pitch.

It was a record for the most red cards shown in a football match.

Fans were truly astounded by the scenes.

Bwin UK posted: “Boca Juniors 7-3 Racing Club.

“No, that wasn’t the final score in the #TrofeoDeCampeones final but the number of RED CARDS each team were shown.

“Absolutely astonishing. Oh, and Racing actually won the match 2-1 AET. Madness.”
