Chelsea play Manchester City in the League Cup third round tomorrow afternoon and what this competition does, is it gives clubs a chance to give minutes to some academy youngsters and fringe players.
Personally, I think Chelsea will go fairly strong with the line-up, but Graham Potter has confirmed that high flying attacker signed from Arsenal this summer, Omari Hutchinson, will not only be in the squad, but he will be ‘involved’.
To me this suggests he will be handed his senior Chelsea debut already, perhaps from the off, or maybe from the bench. But it looks like he will get minutes, and that is great news for us Blues fans.
Hutchinson has been training with Graham Potter in the Chelsea first team not just this week on the lead up to the Manchester City game, but also over the last few weeks and months.
This guy is the real deal. When speaking about players with the X-factor, players who can make something happen from nothing, they are very few and far between. But Hutchinson has this, and I guess that is where he is getting the Eden Hazard comparisons from. I can see that, as much as I dislike such comparisons.
Many at Cobham are adamant that Hutchinson is ready to play for the first team, hence why we should hopefully be seeing him tomorrow. There are no doubts that he can make that step up and get some minutes this season for Potter.
He plays with bravery and automatically brings something that we don’t have in this squad, the ability to run with the ball, beat players using pace as well as skill, an eye for a pass, and a really good finish. Technically he is sound.
Hutchinson is a truly talented player and props to Chelsea for managing to convince him to sign for us this summer, not let’s show the trust in him that he has shown in us. Buzzing to see him play, we have a real gem on our hands here.
