Manchester City are set to offer Rodri a new contract which will “double” his current wages, according to the Daily Star.

The Spanish international has just over two years left to run on his current deal, and the Premier League champions also have an option to extend his stay for another twelve months.

However, it is believed that the Cityzens will begin negotiations with Rodri and his representatives at the end of the season to keep him at the Etihad until 2029,

They will also offer him in excess of £300,000 a week, which is twice the £150,000 salary he is currently earning.

Rodri would become the joint 7th highest paid player in the Premier League

If the 27-year-old does put pen to paper on a new contract, he could potentially earn the same amount as two of his teammates: Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish. According to Capology, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is also taking home a similar amount.

It would mean that only six others would be paid more than Rodri in the English top flight. City pair Kevin De Bruyne (£400k p/w) and Erling Haaland (£375k p/w) lead the list, along with Liverpool’s Mo Salah (£350k p/w), Manchester United duo Casemiro (£350k p/w) and Raphael Varane (£340k p/w) and Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling (£325k p/w).

City’s record this season with Rodri in the team is phenomenal

There is no disputing the fact that the Spaniard is a vital player in Pep Guardiola‘s starting lineup. In the 40 appearances he has made for the Cityzens this campaign, his team have won 32, drawn 7 and lost 1. That solitary defeat was the first match of the season; the Community Shield loss to Arsenal at the beginning of August.

When Rodri is on the pitch for City, they are pretty much guaranteed to pick up points, which demonstrates why the club are so keen to tie him down for the long term.
