The 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America is just around the corner and the legendary CR7 will be hitting the big 4-1 by that time. But the question is, will he still be blazing the pitch for Portugal?
Cristiano Ronaldo refused to rule out another tilt for World Cup glory in 2026 during a recent Q&A session with young supporters in Singapore.
On Saturday evening, Ronaldo concluded his two-day Singapore tour with a visit to the Victoria Junior College (VJC). He was there to support the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship. This amazing initiative, founded in 2010, has already helped some of Singapore’s most talented athletes – including 2016 Olympic Gold medalist swimmer Joseph Schooling.
Over 1,000 enthusiastic people showed up. Ronaldo may only have been there for around 30 minutes, but he still delivered an unforgettable experience. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner dazzled them with his skills in a game of padel, before visiting the school hall. He then graciously took 10 minutes to answer questions, discussing his epic accomplishments, current mindset, and even his future plans
One young fan even raised the possibility of the 38-year-old playing in the 2026 World Cup during the Q&A.
As quoted by The Straits Times, Ronaldo smiled and said: “First, I want to play at the Euros next season.
“It is important to look at the small to medium-term goals. Let’s see what happens.”
The Euro 2024 tournament takes place in Germany between June 14 and July 14 next year. Two years later, the World Cup begins again. The 23rd edition of the FIFA tournament will go down in Canada, Mexico, and the United States in the summer of 2026.
Ronaldo is in the Portugal squad for this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. Despite turning 38 in February, the striker is still in excellent shape. He scored four goals in the first two games, helping Portugal take the top spot in Group J.
When a young fan asked CR7 how he stays driven, his response was simple yet powerful. It’s his passion for football and desire to bring joy to himself and his fans.
Last Friday, Ronaldo also paid a brief visit to Singapore’s first Unesco World Heritage Site to support the NParks-Peter Lim Scholarship, another youth scholarship funded by his friend and Valencia Football Club owner, Peter Lim.
