Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says teammate Erling Haaland is the greatest striker “in the box” he has played with, but he suggested that Sergio Aguero may win his vote as the best overall.

The Belgian international was asked to decide which forward he would vote as No.1, and he even mentioned two that he played alongside during his time at Chelsea:

“It’s a hard question. In the box, I’d say yes. All around, maybe Kun (Sergio Aguero) but it depends on what you talk about. Erling is the most prolific striker I’ve played with.”

“I’ve played with really good strikers like Kun, Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, there’s some good guys. It’s hard to compare but the stats speak for themselves. He’s started the season on fire and let’s hope he maintains it.”

Aguero is still the king but for how much longer?

Sergio Aguero holds a special place in the hearts of City fans, and for good reason. He is the club’s all-time top scorer, having also bagged what is arguably the most famous goal in the club’s history.

However, Haaland is already catching Aguero’s goal total at an incredible rate. The Argentine scored 260 goals across 10 seasons. The Norwegian has 97 in just over 2.

Will Haaland stay at City?

In terms of Haaland’s legacy at the club, a lot will depend on whether he remains at the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future. There have been regular rumours about a transfer to Real Madrid over the past 18 months.

Kylian Mbappe’s move to the Bernabeu has definitely eased any concerns that the European champions will make a concerted effort to sign the Norwegian international soon.

If Haaland does remain in Manchester for another 3 to 4 years, though, he could well break every record in the book.
