Harry Maguire is ‘disgruntled’ at his lack of game time but he is reportedly willing to remain at Man Utd until the summer to see if his situation changes.

It feels like only a matter of time before Maguire leaves Manchester United. He initially performed well following his move to Old Trafford from Leicester in 2019.

But the club captain’s form declined last season and he now finds himself down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are the Dutchman’s preferred centre-backs.

Maguire returned to full fitness in time to play at the World Cup and he was one of England’s best players in Qatar. But this has not altered Ten Hag’s opinion of him as he is still being limited to very little game time.

The defender has attracted interest from West Ham United this month and Serie A giants Inter Milan have now enquired about taking him on loan.

The Daily Star are now reporting that Maguire has ‘rejected’ this move. He has opted to ‘stay and fight for his place at Manchester United, with a view to leaving at the end of the season if nothing changes’.

Inter Milan ‘will be one of several clubs willing to sign’ the ‘disgruntled’ player in the summer. Maguire is ‘running out of patience’ as he is desperate to play regularly.

A separate report from Manchester Evening News states United are ‘finalising their list of players to sell in the summer transfer window as they plan their approach for the next phase of their squad rebuild’.

To comply with UEFA’s new financial sustainability rules, several ‘sellable players’ have ‘already been identified’ by Ten Hag and his coaching staff.

Signing a striker will be a ‘priority’ for the Red Devils in the summer but they are ‘planning to raise funds’ through player sales.

Ten Hag recently hinted that he has an “idea” of what he wants to do in the transfer market later this year.

“I have an idea, yeah,” Ten Hag said when asked about Man Utd’s summer recruitment plans last week.

“But also in the coming days if we had the opportunity I would go for it but that’s not also up to me. That’s also clear.

“I think this club always has to have the approach that every day you have to get better so if there are opportunities to get better then you have to strike. That’s my approach so I’m looking around, to research.

“But I have an idea with which profiles we could strengthen the squad.”

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane are among the names Man Utd are being linked with.
