Bild reports that the reason that Borussia Dortmund did not proceed to loan Armel Bella-Kotchap as Edin Terzic preferred to complete the signing of Niclas Füllkrug.
On deadline day, Dortmund were linked with a loan move for Southampton defender Bella-Kotchap however the move did not materialise and the defender ended up moving to PSV Eindhoven on loan with a loan fee of €2m.
Instead, Terzic decided to pursue the signing of Füllkrug, who ended up costing Dortmund close to €15m. It now means Dortmund only have three central defenders in Niklas Süle, Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck.
This decision to sign a striker over a defender now brings into question whether Terzic has too much power at Dortmund. Earlier in the summer, Terzic vetoed a move for Edson Álvarez and preferred to keep Emre Can as the club’s main defensive midfielder. While the club’s lack of transfer business this summer compared to their rivals has left the squad looking weaker after the departure of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid.
