England manager Gareth Southgate has issued an injury update on key players Harry Kane and Kyle Walker after Saturday’s defeat to Brazil at Wembley.
The Bayern Munich striker will return to Germany after it was determined he will not be fit to face Belgium on Tuesday.
Kane suffered an ankle injury after colliding with the post during last week’s Bundesliga match against Darmstadt, which also threatens his chances of facing Arsenal in the Champions League next month.
Kyle Walker was forced off in the first half with an injury, although it is not clear how serious an issue it is for the Manchester City defender.
Southgate revealed that Chelsea star Cole Palmer and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who were ruled out of the Brazil game, both trained on Saturday morning but it is not guaranteed they will feature against Belgium on Tuesday.
Endrick scored the only goal of the game to hand England their first home defeat in a friendly since March 2016, ending an 18-match unbeaten run, but Southgate was unable to pick his strongest XI for the encounter.
Bukayo Saka had to leave the camp with a muscular problem, while Reece James, Luke Shaw, Levi Colwill and Kieran Trippier were unavailable for selection.
If there is one positive to be taken from England’s mounting injury problems, it has given several players the chance impress the head coach during the side’s last camp before Euro 2024, with Anthony Gordon, Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo making their senior debuts for the national team.
England injury update from Gareth Southgate:
“Harry Kane won’t be fit for Tuesday so he will go back to his club,” SOuthgate told BBC Radio 5 Live after the final whistle.
“With Kyle Walker, we are not sure. He was feeling some tightness and it was something we couldn’t take a chance on.
“Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson trained this morning, but we have to see how they come through that next phase.”
