Ruben Loftus-Cheek will not count as non-EU so Milan now have one more non-EU slot to use this summer.

Italian clubs are only able to sign two non-EU players per season and the Rossoneri management thought they had already used their slots for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Samuel Chukwueze (who will arrive in Italy today for a medical).

Two days ago, the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A made a request to the FIGC (the Italian Football Federation) to treat professional footballers of British nationality as EU citizens.

FIGC acted surprisingly quickly and today announced that they deem the request acceptable. “Footballers with Swiss and British citizenship are equivalent to EU citizens in all respects. These provisions will apply with reference to the 2023/2024 football season,” the FIGC wrote in a statement.

This means, in effect, that Milan now have one more non-EU slot that they can use this summer, and in addition to RLC and Chukwueze, players like Daichi Kamada and Mehdi Taremi can still arrive.
