With an aggregate of just one return in his last five games, and two Aston Villa clean-sheets all season – is it time to pull the plug in Cash from your FPL squad as we approach GW13?

To start with, that upcoming fixture list worries me.

There are a couple  of decent fixtures right around the corner – Spurs away, Bournemouth away. Tottenham away isn’t as hefty as it seems on paper owing to their injuries. Whether Villa will keep a clean-sheet at Tottenham? I don’t think so, but Matty Cash might have lot to do beyond that. With no Mickey Van de Ven – Unai Emery & his Villa shall have more than just a reasonable chance to get something out of the game & Cash shall be on for some probable attacking returns.

And then comes Bournemouth, who are one of the worst defenses in the league with 27 goals conceded.

There is a probable attacking returns in those couple of games, and then Villa follows that up with Manchester City and Arsenal. Most of the people might be looking to dispose him off after that Bournemouth fixture.

If you’re looking to sell him this week, might as well keep hold of him for the next couple of fixtures before making that decision.

Beyond that, if we start thinking from a long-term prospective – there are reasonable numbers that point towards keeping him despite poor record recently.

WHY SHOULD YOU KEEP MATTY CASH OVER LONG-TERM?

First up is, the xGC. Despite Aston Villa only keeping two clean-sheets they are the fifth-best defence in the League with a 16.56 xGC leading to 17 goals against. The clean-sheets shall come with time considering the underlying numbers.

Moreover, Matty Cash has the highest expected goal involvement among any defender in the league with an xGi of 0.42 per 90. Transferring him out means you’re technically selling a player with highest expected involvement from that defensive column for a lower underlying stats.

And finally, Aston Villa have a nice run of fixtures from GW17-27. So, if you bench Matty for those 2 gameweeks where he faces Man City and Arsenal – you can consider keeping him.
