Gary Neville has compared Pep Guardiola’s “relentless” success to former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The two men are the only coaches to win the Treble with English clubs and claim three consecutive Premier League titles, which Guardiola completed last season.

Neville explained how the Catalan has been able to replicate Ferguson’s achievements during his 15-year career in management after watching Manchester City open the season with a dominant 3-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Friday night.

“I’ve realised since I retired that the success of Sir Alex Ferguson was getting a highly talented group of players to come in every single day, work as hard as they possibly can and never give in,” the former right-back told Sky Sports.

“We did that for 10 or 15 years and that’s what Pep Guardiola has been able to do at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

“It’s really simple. If you’re players are the best in the country and you can get them to give you that work ethic every single day, you’re going to win.

“When you drop below that, it could be one or two per cent, that’s when you can have problems. Guardiola is relentless and he never lets go on that.”
