US men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter announced the 23-player roster for the October friendlies, with Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie headlining the squad.
The American team will host Germany on October 14 in East Hartford, Connecticut before facing Ghana at GEODIS Park three days later. Players will begin reporting to Nashville on October 8 for training.
“In line with our long-term strategic approach towards 2026, we have a great opportunity to play against two world-class opponents and continue to progress our group of players,” Berhalter said.
“We are focused on selecting strong rosters and maintaining continuity as much as possible, and this is another important building block.”
The upcoming international window will see Gio Reyna return to the USMNT and reunite with Berhalter for the first time since the explosive incident following the 2022 World Cup.
Tensions first arose in Qatar after reports confirmed Berhalter benched Reyna for matches against England and Wales due to inadequate attitude during training. But the strain between the two parties strengthened in December, when the head coach called out the player for his poor efforts on and off the field.
Reyna’s parents, Danielle and Claudio, retaliated against Berhalter for his comments by going to then-USSF sporting director Earnie Stewart to highlight a domestic violence incident involving Berhalter and his now-wife Rosalind.
U.S. Soccer launched a full independent investigation into the matter, forcing Berhalter to step away from the organization and Anthony Hudson, and later B.J. Callaghan, to serve as interim managers. The coach has since been cleared by USSF, and reappointed as head coach.
US Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker previously revealed the two are ready to “move forward.”
19 of the 23 selected players return to the USMNT after featuring in the shutout victories against Uzbekistan and Oman in September, while midfielder Lennard Maloney earns his first senior call-up.
