A former teammate of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Filip Djordjevic, has told the Lazio midfielder to move to a more “important team” like Manchester City.

Milinkovic-Savic has eighteen months remaining on his contract at his current club and he has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal in recent months. However, Djordjevic says the Serbian is capable of playing for the very best:

“Everything depends on him: if he feels good at Lazio… then we don’t know what’s on his mind. Surely he could have gone to play in the Champions League or Europa League finals for many years, but he felt good in Rome, and As long as he’s fine, this situation goes just as well for all Lazio players. He certainly deserves a more important team.”

“It’s difficult to leave Rome and Lazio: I have expired, from outside the squad in the last year, but it’s so good that it’s difficult to move. I understand him for this too: I know he’s happy there, the Lazio people love him and it’s difficult for him to move. The boy is so strong that he can play anywhere: if he goes to Spain he can play for Real Madrid, if he goes to France he can play for PSG, if he goes to England he can play for Manchester City. I see him everywhere.”

City will be in the market for a midfielder next summer and Milinkovic-Savic would actually be an interesting option. He won’t cost that much, considering he doesn’t have long left on his current deal, while his all-round game could make him a decent replacement for captain Ilkay Gundogan.

The German international could leave the Etihad at the end of the season when his contract expires so the Citizens are likely to be considering possible alternatives. Whether Milinkovic-Savic will be on the club’s list of targets, though, it remains to be seen.
