Bild and kicker both report that Hoffenheim head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo is a candidate to replace Greg Berhalter as the manager of the US men’s national team.

Matarazzo has already received an offer from the USSF and informed former director Alexander Rosen about wanting to take the role. However, Rosen how left, with Hoffenheim without a complete squad ahead of the start of their season in two weeks time.

It has previously been reported that Hoffenheim are already looking at a potential replacement for Matarazzo if he leaves the club, these include Martin Demichelis of River Plate and Christian Eichner of Karlsruhe.

There have also been reports that Matarazzo is unhappy with the squad planning as well as the current squad’s performances in training and this is also one of the reasons for his potential departure. However, speaking after Hoffenheim’s 1-0 loss to Ipswich in a pre-season friendly (via kicker), the American said:

“These are false statements. I never said that I wanted to leave our club. Anyone who watches me during training and games will notice that I am fully here. I am the coach of TSG Hoffenheim with full presence.”

What is clear is that Hoffenheim are in disarray, several directors are leaving the club and that is ultimately affecting their preparation for the new season.
