Manchester United are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the final days of the transfer window.

The Red Devils are in need of midfield reinforcements after a tricky start to the new Premier League campaign, which has seen them scrape wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest either side of a defeat to Spurs.

Hojbjerg has emerged as a potential signing, with Sky Sports reporting that Man United have been “offered the chance to speak to the player” as they “continue to assess midfield options”.

Man United have also looked at Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch as possible solutions to their midfield problem.

Erik ten Hag has previous experience with Hojbjerg, having managed the Dane in Bayern Munich’s second team in 2013/14.

The 28-year-old is yet to start a game for Tottenham so far this season, seeing just 46 minutes of action in the Premier League under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Man United are constrained by Financial Fair Play this summer and may have to sell before they can buy. Scott McTominay has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but West Ham walked away from a potential deal.

The club have already signed Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount for big transfer fees, while Jonny Evans has joined as a free agent.

Update: Manchester United have made “initial contacts” over a deal for Hojbjerg, according to Sky Sports.
