AUBURNDALE — In the Class 3A boys soccer state semifinals, Holy Trinity fell to Tampa Prep, 6-1, Wednesday night.
In the first half, the Tigers took an 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game after Keegan Harrison scored a goal from a corner kick.
Tampa Prep responded to tie the game on a goal from Mateja Nastic three minutes later.
With around 27 minutes left in the game, Asher Jones gave Tampa Prep the lead when he scored his first goal of the game. Jones would go on to score two more goals in the first half giving the Terrapins a 4-1 at halftime.
“I knew Tampa Prep coming into it was going to be good and I knew we needed to have a perfect game,” Holy Trinity head coach Adrian Moreno said. “We had a perfect seven minutes and then after that things kind of fell apart there.”
Jones went on to score his fourth goal of the night in the second half and Jackson Smith added the final goal for the Terrapins.
Despite the Tigers’ season coming to an end, Moreno said he is still proud of the season his team put together this year.
“As a whole, the season was tremendous. To think we were going to get here, if you’d asked me that at Christmas time, I would’ve thought you were crazy based on the results were having,” Moreno said. “I think we bound together, got close together and figured it out when it came time in the playoffs.”
Holy Trinity finishes its season with a record of 9-3-6, and as winner of the District 10-3A and Region 3-3A championships.
“It was great, I know we’ll be back here next year. We got a big junior class and sophomore class coming through, we got some new kids coming in the school that I’ve heard about,” Moreno said. “So, it’ll be good and we’ll be back here and hopefully next year we’ll win it.”
