As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the feeling around Ian Maatsen is that he will leave Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer.
The 21-year-old has already impressed since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan this winter. The full-back has started every game for BVB and was even rewarded with the Rookie of the Month Award for January.
Deputising for Ramy Bensebaini and Julian Ryerson, Maatsen has since made the left-back spot his own. Not only that, but Maatsen has looked solid defensively, and his performances were key in Dortmund conceding just one goal in January.
The 21-year-old is due to return to Chelsea in the summer when his loan move with BVB expires – as per the deal, there was no option to buy clause within the loan move. However, there is a release clause within the youngster’s current contract with the Premier League club.
It’s unclear how much Maatsen’s release is with Chelsea and whether BVB will be in a position, financially, to afford the left back.
