Ex-Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere says he rates Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne ahead of Premier League legends Patrick Vieira, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.
Wilshere was asked to rank midfielders in a “Winners Stays On” game by the Daily Mail‘s TikTok channel, and De Bruyne was the player who ended up coming out on top.
De Bruyne’s record since joining City from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015 has been incredible. In all competitions, the Belgian international has scored 102 goals and provided 170 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 1.41 games.
In terms of competition wins, De Bruyne has lifted the Premier League title six times, whilst also winning 10 domestic cup competitions, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League.
How does De Bruyne’s record compare to the Premier League icons?
It is fair to say that Patrick Vieira wasn’t as creative or prolific in front of goal as the City playmaker. During his career, the Frenchman averaged a goal or assist every 4.92 matches.
Lampard and Scholes compare more favourably. The Chelsea legend’s average was 2.04, having racked up a phenomenal 177 Premier League goals during his time at West Ham and Chelsea.
Scholes was in between Lampard and Vieira with his goal involvements during his time with Manchester United averaging out at 3.05 per match.
City fans will be hoping that the midfielder stays at the Etihad for longer
At the moment, De Bruyne is set to leave the Premier League champions at the end of the current season. His contract expires on June 30th next year.
No discussions have been held over a potential extension. Things could change between now and next summer but there is a feeling that he could make a switch to Saudi Arabia, having already expressed an interest in a move.
