Jan. 11—Zionsville has found the next coach of their girls soccer program.
This week, the Zionsville Community School Board of Trustees approved Rob Klatte as the new head coach of the girls’ soccer program at ZCHS.
Ramon Aguillon stepped aside in November after being the coach since 2008.
“We are very excited to add Rob Klatte to our ZCHS coaching staff,” Zionsville Athletic Director Greg Schellhase said in a press release. “I am very confident that he will provide the stability, experience, discipline, and enthusiasm that will help continue to move our program forward. With Rob’s impressive coaching background and dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment, we are confident that Coach Klatte will motivate and inspire our student-athletes to reach their full potential on and off the field.”
Klatte is currently the Sporting Director at ZYSA where his main role is to provide oversight and administration to ZYSA teams and coaches.
Prior to that, Klatte had an extensively and successful collegiate coaching career.
He was the first head coach of women’s soccer at Purdue, leading the Boilermakers to 17 winning seasons and six NCAA Tournament appearances. He was named Big Ten and Great Lakes Coach of the Year during his tenure at Purdue.
Klatte also was the head coach at Wright State, and served time as an assistant coach at Cincinnati and Butler.
“During my time as both a collegiate and club soccer coach, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Zionsville High School soccer players,” Klatte said. “The competitiveness, dedication and commitment of our student-athletes is exceptional, and I’m privileged to begin working with these players to maximize their potential and help them achieve their goals — both on and off the pitch. I look forward to meeting the team and preparing for the fall season.”
The Lady Eagles bring back a good core of last year’s team that finished 7-9-2 and reach the sectional final.
Zionsville returns 2/3 of their scoring from a year ago.
“There is no question that we have a very bright soccer future ahead of us, and Rob’s understanding of what it takes to run a successful program will be beneficial in our program’s continued success,” Schellhase said. “I am confident that he will be able to connect with the girls in a very productive manner that will help create a successful and positive experience for all of those involved with the program.”
Klatte received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baylor University and recently completed his teaching certification at Purdue University. He played collegiately at Wittenberg and at Baylor.
He has an “A” coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation in addition to a United Soccer Coaches National Diploma.
