Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he will join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The French striker’s contract expires at the end of this season and can join another club for free when the transfer market reopens.

PSG had hoped to tie the 25-year-old down to a new deal, but he has “communicated his decision” to the Ligue 1 club, according to The Athletic.

The terms of his exit are still to be decided, but David Ornstein reports that an official announcement will be made in the coming months.

Mbappe costs PSG a reported £171m per annum in salary, making him the most expensive footballer in history, although it is believed he will not be earning as much at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos attempted to sign Mbappe in 2022 as a free agent, but he made the surprise decision to extend his contract with PSG. He has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, who registered their interest in the player.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal made a €300m transfer offer for Mbappe last summer. PSG gave the World Cup winner permission to speak with the club, but he chose to remain in the French capital.
