The Athletic reports that Liverpool are pushing to complete a deal with RB Leipzig for attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 22-year-old has a release clause in his contract at Leipzig worth €70m which is set to expire in the middle of the summer. Liverpool had originally deemed the move as too difficult to complete earlier on in the week, but they now have confidence that they can sign Szoboszlai.

Newcastle United had previously shown interest in the Hungarian but they have now pulled out of the race for the 22-year-old.

Leipzig are currently set to complete the signing of Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho on loan for the current season and the club views the 20-year-old as a successor the Dani Olmo and Szoboszlai but that may now change if the Hungarian leaves this summer.

This would be Leipzig’s third marquee player to leave the club this summer. Christopher Nkunku has already joined Chelsea, while defender Joško Gvardiol is on the verge of joining Manchester City.
