Luis Suarez is set to join Inter Miami in the coming weeks as sources confirm to 90min the deal between the two parties is finalized.
As 90min revealed in June, the player always looked to rejoin former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in Florida. Though Suarez had intentions to join the Herons in the summer, he remained under contract with Brazilian side Gremio. The 36-year-old’s deal with Gremio extends to 2024, but contains a release clause which he and Miami have activated.
Rumors of his impending arrival arose last week after head coach Renato Gaucho revealed Suarez played his final game with the team. The player then took to social media to post his goodbye: ‘Me and my family want to thank everyone for the love and what we lived (Saturday) in the Arena Do Gremio. It was an incredible, unforgettable day that we will take in our hearts forever.”
Sources have now confirmed to 90min his departure from Gremio will be followed by a move to Inter Miami. The player’s arrival will be made official in the coming days as the Primary Transfer Window opens on December 11. Nothing can be announced prior.
Jordi Alba, Busquets, Messi and Suarez last played together in 2020 for FC Barcelona, before Suarez departed for Atletico Madrid. The foursome broke La Liga records, lifting ten trophies including three league titles and three Copas del Rey.
Now, the four will reunite in Major League Soccer to try and win the team’s first ever league trophy. The team previously lifted the first piece of silverware in club history when winning the inaugural Leagues Cup tournament in 2023.
