The full quarter final lineup for the 2022/23 Champions League was confirmed on Wednesday following the penultimate evening of group stage action.
Lyon’s draw with Juventus ensured they joined Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, PSG, Wolfsburg and Roma in the knockout stages.
Lyon secured their safe passage through to the quarter finals at the expense of Juventus, after the pair drew 0-0 at the Groupama Stadium. Only victory would have been enough for the Italian champions to progress to the knockout stages.
Top spot in Group C however went to Arsenal thanks to an emphatic 9-1 win in Zurich. A Frida Mannum hat-trick, braces from Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord and goals from Kim Little and Mana Iwabuchi ensured the Gunners topped Group C in style.
Barcelona were also assured of top spot in their group after a comfortable 6-0 victory over Rosengard.
Asisat Oshoala netted a first half brace with a pair of back post finishes, and Mapi Leon was on the scoresheet with a fabulous free kick as the Spanish champions cantered into a three goal first half lead.
Fridolina Rolfo emphatically found the top corner after being sumptuously found by Aitana Bonmati, Marta Torrejon netted from close range and Irene Paredes headed home from a corner as Barça added a fourth, fifth and sixth in the second half.
Bayern Munich had to settle for second in Group D despite a 2-0 victory over Benfica, finishing level on points with Barcelona but missing out on top spot by virtue of their head to head record.
Klara Buhl netted a second half brace for Bayern after being found by Georgia Stanway on both occasions – the first was a particularly stunning pass in behind from the England midfielder.
The final group fixtures take place on Thursday, where PSG and Chelsea and Wolfsburg and Roma will do battle for top spot in their respective groups.
