Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that they will not extend the contract of Mahmoud Dahoud in the summer, as reported by Sven Westerschulze of Sky Germany. Dahoud has spent six seasons at BVB but the 27-year-old’s time has finally come to an end.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed the news by explaining: “I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo last week. I informed him that we would not be extending his contract in the summer. Mo has been with us for six years now, he is a very good footballer and I really have a very high opinion of him in terms of sport and personality. Nevertheless, we decided to take this step.”

Dahoud move to Dortmund in 2017 from Borussia Monchengladbach. Since then, the midfielder has played over 137 competitive games in black and yellow. However, he never quite impressed enough to be an out-and-out undisputed starting 11 player.

From June, Dahoud will be able to join a new club on a free transfer. It’s unsure where his next career move could be but it could be a great bit of business for any team looking for an experienced central midfielder who still has plenty of years left.

Dahoud’s departure could make way for Naby Keita who is likely to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
