Manchester United are reportedly one of two Premier League clubs interested in signing Chelsea prospect Yahya Idrissi this summer.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is understood to be keen on implementing a youth-focused transfer strategy at United, which marks a break from the club’s usual strategy of recruiting already established players who are already past their peak years.
Already, the Red Devils have secured the services of Australian talent James Avery and Silva Mexes.
In the current transfer window, the club has been linked to other youngsters such as Michael Olise (Crystal Palace), Desire Doue (Rennes), Joao Neves (Benfica), Antonio Silva (Benfica) and Leny Yoro (Lille), just to mention a few names.
According to HITC, Erik ten Hag’s side are eager to add Chelsea’s Idrissi to their ranks but they face stiff competition from Newcastle, who are also working to get a deal for him over the line.
Chelsea want to keep their player and are actively making efforts to tie him down to a new contract.
HITC reveal, “Newcastle United and Manchester United are interested in signing midfield starlet Yahya Idrissi from Chelsea.”
“Both Premier League clubs are keen to strike a deal for the 16-year-old schoolboy who is seen as a huge talent at Cobham having already featured for their Under-18s side.”
“Chelsea have begun contract talks as they attempt to tie Idrissi down to his first professional deal.”
The Moroccan is also attracting overtures from abroad but the “main threat” is from Premier League outfits such as United and the Magpies.
The report further states, “Chelsea remain hopeful that Idrissi still sees his future with the London club but HITC understands that both Manchester United and Newcastle are pushing hard to land him.”
The attacking midfielder managed one goal and one assist in four U18 Premier League clashes.
